Orange Blossoms

A cultural history of gardens in Orange and district

Dedicated to the gardeners of Orange past and present

Their imagination, creativity, knowledge and hard work enriches the environment and our experience of the city and its surrounds.

The parks, gardens and trees are perhaps the most loved feature of Orange. This exhibition honours the contribution that gardens and gardeners make to the beauty and amenity of the city and district. It is not a complete history but the start of a project to better record the region's garden history.

Gardens are the most ephemeral works of creation. They are always changing in a cycle of growth and decay. And they can disappear leaving few traces of their glory and no records of their maker. Gardens are not signed like a portrait or documented in land title records. Nevertheless they are a central part of the creative history and cultural heritage of Orange. What would Orange be like without them?
