Photographs of 'Wellwood', about 1900

Scottish immigrant Andrew Kerr, took up the land grant of 'Wellwood' and had the 1195 acres surveyed in 1836. The house was built in 1858. The plan of the estate in 1842 shows areas marked out for the garden and a garden paddock. The early estates of the Orange district were like mini villages with all the services required to sustain the life of European settlers. The photographs show the typical pattern of windbreaks and hedging essential to successful colonial gardens.
